Jaipur, which was founded by Maharaja Jai Singh II, is the capital and the largest city of the Indian State of Rajasthan in Northern India. Jaipur has a total population of 3,073,350 out of which 78% are Hindus and in turn it is Marwari’s who dominate majority of the Hindu population. The Marwari or Marwadi are an Indian ethnic group that originates from Rajasthan region of India.  Many people from various Marwari castes migrated to distant states for business, agriculture and later became successful. The term “Marwari” caught on as a way to refer to a businessman from Marwar. It is rightly said that a Marwari is a true business man at heart and there are many Marwari’s who have emerged successfully as one.

Some Marwari businessmen who have touched exceeding heights in their businesses are:

1. Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal:

Sachin Bansal is an Indian software engineer and internet entrepreneur originally from Chandigarh, is also a marwari businessmen. Similarly his business partner Binny Bansal is also from Chandigarh and from Marwari community. Both of them are the founder and CEO of the successful e-commerce company ‘Flipkart’. Flipkart was founded in 2007 and has its headquarters is in Singapore. In September 2015, both entered Forbes India Rich List debuting at the 86th position with a net worth of $1.3 billion each.

2. Mukesh Bansal:

Originally from Karnataka and educated at India Institute of Technology, Kanpur Mukesh Bansal is the founder and CEO of Myntra which is a leading e-commerce company of fashion and casual lifestyle. As of 25th April 2016, Myntra ranks as the top 4 startup for India in the Startup Ranking.

3. Rohit Bansal:

Rohit Bansal is an Indian entrepreneur, cofounder and COO of e-commerce platform Snapdeal. Rohit was born in Punjab and belongs to the Marwari community. He got his bachelor’s degree in engineering from Indian Institute of Technology New Delhi.

Dinesh Agarwal is an Indian entrepreneur, founder and CEO of IndiaMART, an online B2B marketplace in India. Born to a business family in India, Agarwal completed his high school from Maharaja Agrasen Vidyalaya Inter College, Lucknow. As of 2015, IndiaMART claimed to have 3 million suppliers listed on its website.

7. Bhavish Agarwal:

Bhavish Aggarwal is an Indian entrepreneur and founder of Ola Cabs. Aggarwal was born in Ludhiana, Punjab. Ola started as an online cab aggregator in Mumbai, now based out in Bangalore. Ola bagged Startup of The Year award in Economic Times Startup Awards 2015.

8. Gaurav Agarwal:

11. Ritesh Agarwal:

Deepinder Goyal is founder and CEO of Zomato.com. He completed his studies from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. Zomato is a restaurant search and discovery service founded in 2008. The company also provides cashless payment, online ordering, white-label apps, table reservation, and point-of-sale systems.

13. Ashish Goel:

Urban Ladder was started by Ashish Goel in 2012. Ashish Goel previously worked with McKinsey & Company and served as the COO of Amar Chitra Katha. He is a recipient of India’s National Award for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities 2010. He was awarded on 3 December 2010 by President of India Pratibha Patil in New Delhi. In 2015, he was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.
