Historical places to visit in Jaipur

Jaipur is famous for it’s history. Jaipur is known as the world’s renowned city for its rich cultural heritage. Jaipur has been popular as the land of the Rajputs and the Royal Kings who were best known for their warriorship and martyrdom. There is history in every corner you find. 

Hawa Mahal

Hawa mahal was built in 1799 and situated at Badi Choupad, City of Jaipur which is made by the grandson of Sawai Jai Singh, Sawai Pratap Singh. It’s 953 windows are the main attraction of the tourists. In ancient times, royal ladies were not allowed to go out, so, Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh made Hawa Mahal, so that, royal ladies can look through the window and enjoy the view of the whole city. It’s architecture was inspired by Lord Krishna’s crown, because Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh was devoted to Lord Krishna. 

Amber Fort


Amber fort was built in 1592 with red sandstone and marble by Raja Man Singh. It used to be the main residence of the Rajput Maharajas. The fort is located on a hill in Amer, Rajasthan, which is situated right next to the very beautiful Maota lake and is 11 km away from Jaipur. Tourists’ main attraction of the fort is that it is built on top of a mountain.

Jal Mahal

Jal Mahal was built by Maharaja Madho Singh. Kings used to go there for duck hunting trips. The palace is in the middle of the Man Sagar Lake in Jaipur. It is built with pink sandstone and is a Five- storied building, of which four floors remain underwater and the one you can see. A mortar mix of lime is used to protect the building from water seepage.

City Palace

The City Palace was conceived and built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II who is also a founder of Jaipur. However, the present king of Jaipur Padmanabh Singh, grandson of Man Singh II still lives with his family in the private section of the palace. The Palace has a collection of valuable antiques like weapons, dresses, and many royal collectibles.

Birla Temple

Birla Temple aka Lakshmi Narayana Mandir is a Hindu temple, where we worship Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu (Narayana). It was built by the B. M. Birla Foundation in 1988 with solely white marble. It is located near Moti Dungri temple. It’s architecture reflects Hindu mythology. Tourists are attracted to it’s white marble architecture. It’s visiting hours are: Morning: 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M., Evening: 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

Jaigarh Fort


Jaigarh Fort overlooks the Amer Fort and the Maota Lake in Jaipur, India. Jaigarh fort was built by Sawai Jai Singh in 1726 and was named after him. The fort was built to protect the Amer fort and built above 400 m from the Amer fort. The fort is situated on the range of Aravali hills. There is a tunnel connecting Amer fort to Jaigarh fort which is a 2 km long tunnel. Jaigarh fort is also known for it’s Jaivana cannon which was the world’s largest cannon on wheels in the early modern era. But, this cannon was never used in any battle as the Rajput rulers had friendly relations with the Mughals.
