Jaipur celebrated World Storytelling Day at Albert Hall.

Jaipur witnessed an evening of captivating stories at Albert Hall on the occasion of World Story Telling Day on Tuesday. People from diverse backgrounds weaved magic with their words at the event with the majestic backdrop, which itself is a symbol of fascinating stories from Jaipur’s cultural and historical past. Titled Gatha: Teri Meri Kahaani, the storytelling event was organised by the Department of Archaeology and Museums, Govt. of Rajasthan.

Among the performers were Shweta, Avjot Singh Ghai, Alka Bhatnagar, Ram Gulati, Aanchal Singh, Ashish Meghvashi, Prateek Agarwal, Rapperiya Balam, Vishal Gupta and Bhavya Soni. The event witnessed a mélange of storytelling as well as Urdu nazm recital.

Storyteller, Shweta, narrated a tale of the pressure implied by the society on an Indian girl to marry at an early age. A musical storytelling performance ‘Hariyala banao, Naadan Banao’ by Rapperiya Balam was enjoyed by the audience as many others expressed their own stories in unique storytelling forms. The youngest storyteller was 7 years old who enthralled the audience with his innocence.

Mohit Batra, one of the organisers of the event expressed, “The idea for this event was to rekindle the art of storytelling which is losing its meaning and beauty in this tech-savvy age.”
