JAIPUR Itinerary: A day in the Pink City of India

If you are a planning a trip to Jaipur and want to explore the best and most in a day then you must read along. Jaipur is indeed a large city, being the capital of Rajasthan, and cannot be covered in a day wholly. But yes, the parts we are going to tell you are also pretty awesome and apt to take back beautiful memories with you.

Amer Fort

One of the reasons why people flock to Jaipur is the Amer Fort and numerous other forts standing close to it. It is a huge and majestic structure and its said to be built by Meena kings as a tribute to Goddess Amba. The structure is larger than life and showcases the lavish lifestyle of the Rajput kings. It opens at 10 am to 5 pm for visitors. It would take somewhat around two and a half hours for you to watch it, but if you are someone who loves the essence of history then it might take a little longer for you to explore the Amer Fort as it’s quite enormous. There is a ‘light and sound’ show 6 pm onwards which is quite recommended for the visitors. It has a ticketed entry of 100 Rs. Per head.

Jaigarh Fort

Above the Amer Fort, you will see a distant fort lining the outskirts of Amer. That’s Jaigarh and it is the victory fort named after Sawai Jai Singh II who built this as the military fort. Inside Jaigarh, you will see a museum with some rifles, armory, and cannons of various types. The 20 feet long, 50-tonne Jaivan cannon stands in the wilderness of the Fort. The place gives a beautiful view of the city and Amer from the top. You can take a cab to Jaigarh from Amer, but if you want some more adventure in your trip, try taking the tunnel path which joins Amer and Jaigarh and was once used as a secret pathway. This fort too has a ticketed entry of 50 Rs. Per head.

Nahargarh Fort

Situated closely to the above forts comes the Nahargarh Fort which was constructed by Sawai Jai Singh II in the early 18th century. This fort boasts of giving you an impeccable view of the sunset. The place is strikingly beautiful and gives a pretty nice view of the city from that height. This too has a ticketed entry.

Jalmahal

Jalmahal was built in the middle of Man Sagar Lake around 1800 AD by Sawai Pratap Singh and later modified and restored by Sawai Jai Singh II. You will spot the Jalmahal on your right when going to Amer Fort. You can stop by and have some pictures clicked, as it is not opened for the common mass. The façade of the palace is extremely beautiful and whole structure is under renovation. There are a lot of birds sitting around Jal Mahal and gives an eye-pleasing look.

Jantar Mantar

Jantar Mantar is an architectural marvel, it unveils everything about the sky above us. This observatory built by Sawai Jai Singh II in his quest for astronomy has about 14 Jantar’s (Equipment) performing Mantar (Calculation) to tell us the time, date, eclipse, movement of the planets etc. It is located next to the Jaipur City Palace. You can complete your tour at Jantar Mantar in about one or one and half hours and then can take a cab to the Hawa Mahal.

Hawa Mahal

Hawa Mahal or known as the Palace of Winds is bright structure standing amidst the hustling bustling city of Jaipur. It is a five-storied structure and has 953 latticed windows, originally built for the Royal Women to watch the street processions and festivities. It has a beautiful façade and showcases the beauty of architectural in olden times.

Shopping in Jaipur: Johari Bazar

After having a great lunch, or maybe munching some street food you can head straight to Johari Bazar. It is located at a walking distance from Hawa Mahal. It is best to buy souvenirs, jewelry, clothing, craftwork, and art etc.

Best Time to Visit Jaipur

October to March are the best months to visit the Pink City.
