Jaipur pays a tribute to Stephen Hawking at Jantar Mantar.

Stephen William Hawking CH CBE FRS FRSA (8 January 1942 – 14 March 2018) was an English theoretical physicist, cosmologist, author, and director of research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology at the University of Cambridge.

An event was recently held at Jantar Mantar to pay a tribute to Stephen Hawking. The event titled, ‘The Bookseller and The Scientist: Remembering Stephen Hawking’, was an attempt to talk about the contribution of the late physicist, cosmologist and author towards the society. Organised by the Department of Archaeology and Museums, Government of Rajasthan, the event hosted a talk by speakers, Rohit Gupta and Mohit Batra, who spoke about everything from the sundials of Maharajah Jai Singh II and stars to the speed of light, history of astronomy, distant galaxies and black holes.

 

Hridesh Kumar Sharma, the director of Archaeology and Museums departtment, Government of Rajasthan, said, “We plan to organise more such events. The idea is to make city monuments livelier, so that they can attract more tourists.”
