Jaipur will be the first city of Rajasthan to get electric buses

Rajasthan government is planning to electrify Jaipur City Transport Service by procuring electric buses for the intra-city commute of the people. JCTSL will replace 100 of buses with air-conditioned electric buses by the end of 2019.

This step has been taken to push electric mobility in the city and encourage the city to adopt a greener and environment-friendly mode of transport. This new development by the government of Rajasthan will make Jaipur the first city of the state to have electric buses for public commuting.

In its first phase, the city transport service will replace 100 out of its 250 old buses with the new electric buses. These 100 buses are quite old and are contributing to the increasing pollution in the city. The remaining 150 are relatively new and do not contribute to pollution.

However, in the long run, JCTSL may replace all of its old buses with the new ones.

Jaipur City Transport Service has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for supply, operation and maintenance of the 100 new air-conditioned vehicles under Public-Private Partnership (PPP).

The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 175 crores.
