THE VOICE OF BETTER CHANGE – Brunel University London
Brunel University London held their 47th Student Union Elections from the 7th-11th March, with positions open for nominations in order to empower the student voice within the administration of the establishment.
With a student body of over 15,000 students, the campus was overhauled with campaign teams expressing their candidate’s manifesto points. From banners to slogans and t-shirts to posters, students were out in force to gain the support of their peers.
Brunel University London is currently ranked 15th for having one of the largest cohorts of international students in the world. Ranjeet Singh Rathore ran for the position of International Students Chair, and when results were released on Friday, he came to success with over double the votes of his standing opponent. With the position in hand, he will now go on to represent all international students at Brunel University; which covers 80% of the current student population.
He won the elections with the support of his intercontinental campaign team, which included Ayesha Khan (from England), Arsalan Umrani (from Pakistan), Sengi Yuy (from Russia), Assad Saeed (from England) and Shahbano Sherazi (from Canada).
Ranjeet promises to host more multicultural social nights for students, as well as extending the Brunel Buddy scheme which helps to integrate students into both the academic and social life in the United Kingdom. He was also chosen by his fellow students as his manifesto promised for an improvement of university services as well as accommodation. He also endeavours to set up an international’s student committee in order to represent the under-represented and remove cultural barriers that currently stand.
Ranjeet went to London for his graduation in 2015 and won hearts of the international students who helped him in his election campaign. Ranjeet’s family and friends are extremely proud of his success and wish him luck.
